How CBD Can Help With Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms

How CBD Can Help With Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms

We want to share four amazing ways cannabis can help treat Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which is a neurodegenerative autoimmune disease. In other words, it’s a disease in the nervous system that directly affects the brain and the spinal cord. It damages the material surrounding and protecting nerve cells, the myelin sheath, causing blockage and delayed messages between your brain and body. But we’re here to tell you which properties of cannabis can help fight against MS symptoms.

 I. Anti-inflammatory

A primary symptom of MS is inflammation of neural tissue. Fortunately, one of the many reasons we encourage the medicinal use of cannabis  is  the  anti-inflammatory  property of cannabinoids. Due to MS, the immune cells  attack  the central nervous system, leading to inflammation of the myelin sheaths. When activated, these immune cells release cytokines, pro-inflammatory proteins, which cause extensive inflammation in the brain. Premium Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound of the cannabis plant, can deactivate the immune system to prevent these attacks on the nervous system.

2. Spasticity

In spasticity, the muscles become stiff or rigid with exaggerated, jerky reflexes of the tendons. This condition interferes  with most forms of locomotion: walking, balance, speech, involuntary spasms, as well as for movements requiring precision or balance. CBD works by mimicking the body’s own biochemicals – called endocannabinoids and bio-chemically help balance the system by modulating neuro receptors. In the case of spasticity, muscular nerve misfiring is halted or reduced in many cases.

3. Pain Relieving

The pain caused by Multiple Sclerosis  is the most common and debilitating symptom patients experience. And just as inflammation and pain come as a package, CBD oil also helps to relieve the intense pain. The inflammation of the neural tissue leads the tissues in the body to swell up, become aggravated and result in deterioration. Nerve cells will send pain signals throughout the body as the tissues breakdown. Through its ability to directly reduce immune responses and cease inflammation, cannabis is able to help reduce pain for MS sufferers.

4. Aids Digestion

A common, but not widely-known symptom in Multiple Sclerosis patients takes place in the stomach. Because 70% of the body’s immune cells can be found in our gut, gastrointestinal issues such as abdominal pain, constipation, abnormal bowel movements, and problems with digestion occur.

As aforementioned, CBD engages with the immune  system to calm the inflammation stirring up in the abdominal area.

CBD acts as bridges between the body and the brain, bridges that have been destroyed by MS. When connected to the right location, CBD can aid in the regulation of any bodily system. As CBD connects to CB2 receptors in the peripheral nervous system, which controls functions in the stomach, it works as an anti-inflammatory agent for your body to allow for a relaxed digestive system.

CBD Oil Could Help Slow the Progression of Alzheimer’s

CBD Oil Could Help Slow the Progression of Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia with over 3 million cases a year in the U.S. alone. Scientists believe this disease is not attributed to just one cause but by a combination of genetic, lifestyle and environment factors. This progressive disease destroys normal functions of nerve cells due to disruptions by plaque buildup and tangles in the brain.

Some symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease include loss of memory, inability to carry on conversation and change in other cognitive functions. As the disease progresses, it effects physical functions such as balance, swallowing and bladder control. The therapeutic benefits of cannabis have shown to enhance quality of life for patients through improved motor function and reduced agitation that may accompany other symptoms.

Right now, there is no way to avoid Alzheimer’s, but recent studies are discovering new Alzheimer’s prevention breakthroughs and easier identifier signs to lower risk.

Research continues to better understand the effects of CBD oil on the brain. Some early evidence suggests that CBD oil may reduce inflammation in the brain.

New research identifies the potential to inhibit plaque buildup in the brain with the proper use of medicinal cannabis. While there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, cannabinoids show neuroprotective traits against symptoms and may eliminate the destruction of cells. Scientists discovered the molecular basis of inflammation in the brain, highlighting that THC-like compounds may reduce levels of beta amyloid proteins, known for causing cell death in neurodegenerative disease. (Alzheimers.net)

Aricept and Cognex are two drugs currently being used to prevent plaque formation. However, when tested against the efficacy of medical cannabis, Aricept blocked plaque formation only 22% as well as cannabis and Cognex blocked plaque formation only 7% as well as cannabis. (WebMD) Therefore, there are no current medications that have significant impact on inhibiting cell death associated with such diseases. However, studies show that activating cannabinoid receptors may prevent the accumulation of amyloid-like proteins which are common for causing cell death.

In conclusion, premium cannabinoids may help prevent the buildup of toxic proteins in the brain, lessen inflammation associated with tangles and prevent cell death while also stimulating growth of neural tissue.

How CBD Oils And Creams Can Help With Skin Care

How CBD Oils And Creams Can Help With Skin Care

We know that cannabidiol (CBD) has anti-seizure and anti-tumor properties, but its medicinal benefits do not stop there. Topical CBD treatments can improve your physical health from the outside in. The natural compound can aid in the improvement of the overall health and appearance of your skin!

How it works:

Topical application of CBD oil creates a unique and positive interaction with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which controls and cares for your skin cells. From preservation to prevention, here are some incredible ways CBD can help save your skin from any harmful or irritating agents.

Youthful Skin Maintenance

CBD oils and CBD creams possess significant anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective traits meaning it protects the skin of any damage from free radicals. These free radicals include UV rays, smoke, and environmental pollutants that can lead to

fine lines and wrinkles. Fight against these aging factors with the consistent use of our CBD Cream in your daily skin regimen.

Oil Control

Who would have thought a CBD moisturizer could control your oil? Suffering from oily skin is no walk in the park, and most people are hesitant to follow the advice of moisturizing their skin for fear of increasing the amount of oil on their skin. When you deprive your skin from moisture, you are encouraging the oil glands to produce excessive oil for your skin. In the case of cannabis, using CBD infused products helps to decrease the over production of oil.

CBD Oil for Eczema

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is a condition that makes your skin red and itchy. It’s common in children but can occur at any age. Atopic dermatitis is long lasting (chronic) and tends to flare periodically. It may be accompanied by asthma or hay fever. No cure has been found for atopic dermatitis. CBD oil has anti-inflammatory and microbial effects, cannabidiol oil calms and soothes the skin as well as protects it by fighting off bacteria and stopping infections from taking over.

CBD Oil for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin disorder that causes skin cells to multiply up to 10 times faster than normal. This makes the skin build up into bumpy red patches covered with white scales. They can grow anywhere, but most appear on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back.

CBD oil for skin conditions, such as psoriasis, is gaining traction as a popular remedy due to its anti-inflammatory and soothing effects. Essentially, CBD impedes the growth of keratinocytes, which cause the accelerated rate of growth and division of skin cells, thus regulating the skin growth cycle.

Acne

Finally, the most common skin issue among all ages – acne. Oil control plays a huge role in managing acne. The oil that creates those blemishes is known as sebum, which excretes rough sebaceous glands. But when dirt and clogged pores get in the way, the sebum mixes with bacteria and becomes a blemish. When put to the test, we discovered that when applying non-psychoactive CBD to the endocannabinoid receptors of the skin, this oil production stopped, and acne faded away. Further, when applied on the affected area directly, the production of sebocytes decreased significantly. So, your constant search for spot treatments can end right here. Get to the root of your blemishes before they surface.

Your skin is constantly being challenged by environmental and personal skin care issues. Incorporating CBD infused products into your daily routine, may help to relieve some of those problems.

All of CBD Essentials products are sourced from whole flower cannabis plants, non-psychoactive, and are known to have significant therapeutic benefits. To ensure consistency and quality, our topicals are lab formulated, and third party tested.

Cannaisseur Brands: Best CBD Skin Care Company for WellnessWhat is CBD?

CBD is all the buzz right now, but don’t expect it to give you a buzz.  For those who are still new to the world of CBD, the ingredient can be very confusing.  It is the shortened
term for Cannabidiol, which is a non-psychoactive chemical compound found in the
cannabis plant, unlike THC. The properties of CBD will give you relief without the mind-altering effects thanks to
the entourage  effect.  The entourage effect is a synergetic effect that results when the many components within the cannabis plant interact with the human body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components alone. In other words, it can help
maximize the therapeutic effects of CBD. CBD has a wide range of effects that can be significantly useful for women. In addition to pain and stress relief, here are areas of concern for most women that CBD can help with!
Universal benefits we all experience with CBD include:

  • Support managing Anxiety and Stress
  • Proactive regimen for inflammation and pain
  • More restful sleep
  • Natural approach to WellnessHormonal Imbalance

Specific benefits of prime importance to women include:

Hormonal Imbalance

We’re all fairly familiar with hormones, but what’s their purpose?

Hormones are chemical messengers produced by your endocrine glands that are secreted directly into the blood, which carries them to organs and tissues throughout the body to exert their respective functions. It only takes small amounts of secretion to bring about major changes in the body, so if the body is producing too much or too little, otherwise known as hormonal imbalances, it can cause serious effects.

Symptoms of hormonal imbalance can range widely due to the various glands and hormones that could be working improperly. Some symptoms include weight fluctuation, mood swings, and fatigue.

One study investigated the effects of cannabidiol and how it interferes with the secretion of cortisol, the stress-activating hormone.  Another study looked a CBD’s effect on “the function of the reproductive system, lactation, metabolism, and on the endocrine stress axis.” Both studies show how cannabinoids play a major role in the ability to influence hormone release, therefore, by influencing hormone regulation, CBD can help with hormonal imbalances.

Beauty

CBD has been proven to help many aspects of our hair and skin. Packed with nutrients and natural benefits, CBD should become a vital part of your everyday beauty regimen.

As an anti-inflammatory agent, CBD lotions and serums could help prevent irritations that those with sensitive or dry skin often experience such as eczema and psoriasis.  It’s also been proven to decrease oil production in the sebaceous glands, which would help clear obstructed pores. Properly moisturizing your skin and preventing these damaging issues will provide anti=aging benefits as well.

PMS

Premenstrual Syndrome is a combination of symptoms that can occur about 5-11 days before the onset of menstruation. Over 150 symptoms exist, but the most common include cramps, anxiety, food cravings, bloating, fatigue, breast tenderness, and mood swings just to name a few.

CBD interacts with our endocannabinoid system to help combat these symptoms. Dr. Anita Sadaty states that CBD’s ability to lower stress hormone levels, improve liver detox capabilities and reduce inflammation will target physical PMS symptoms.  The anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties of CBD could help significantly with reducing the discomfort that comes from cramps, bloating and breast tenderness.

Furthermore, CBD has been proven to help regulate hormonal imbalances, which could help lessen the intensity of mood swings.  The chemical’s ability to promote relaxation throughout the body also lessens anxiety and stress.

By helping stabilize mood swings and alleviating anxiety and stress, CBD could also be useful for women going through menopause, but not enough evidence has come out to prove this.

Digestion

While gut health is a concern for both men and women, women are more frequently affected with nearly 72% of women suffering from digestive issues. Finally, by interacting with our endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for the regulations of most bodily processes, it has a great impact on our digestive system. By signaling hunger, inflammation, and stomach permeability, cannabinoids can be used to target receptors involving the endocannabinoid system.

This would help gut motility by allowing our bodies to digest and process properly. By reducing inflammation, irritation and swelling in the stomach, CBD can be used to relieve symptoms related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome such as nausea, diarrhea, and constipation as well.

How CBD May Help with Glaucoma Symptoms

How CBD May Help with Glaucoma Symptoms?

With more than three million people in the United States suffering from Glaucoma, it is to spread awareness about this sight-stealing disease. Caused by a build-up of extra fluid behind the front part of the eye, Glaucoma damages your eye’s optic nerve due to increased pressure and eventually leads to loss of sight. Symptoms may include blurred vision, severe eye and head pain, nausea, vomiting, or sudden loss of sight. Also referred to as “the sneak thief of sight,” this disease is the leading cause of irreversible blindness.

It is important to note that you should always refer to your doctor or CBD specialist when considering cannabis therapy. The intent of this blog is to share what Glaucoma is and how CBD oils may be able to provide some relief to those who suffer from this terrible disease.

What Causes Glaucoma?

As we mentioned, Glaucoma occurs when there is a buildup of pressure in your eye, referred to as intraocular pressure (I0P), which damages the optic nerve. If the damage worsens, it results in permanent vision loss or total blindness. Glaucoma frequently occurs in older adults. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease, so experts aren’t able to declare a precise cause behind the buildup of fluid.

Types of Glaucoma

There are two main types of glaucoma Primary glaucomas and secondary glaucomas. Within the primary category, there is open-angle glaucoma, normal-tension glaucoma, angle-closure glaucoma, and congenital glaucoma. These are diagnosed when experts are unsure of the causes behind the disease. Within secondary glaucomas, there is neovascular glaucoma, pigmentary glaucoma, exfoliation glaucoma, and uveitic glaucoma. These are diagnosed when glaucoma is caused by another medical condition. Depending on the severity and progression, professionals may treat glaucoma with medications such as prescription eye drops or, if necessary, surgery. Each type of glaucoma is different – but most have no early symptoms, so it is important to get tested regularly, especially if you are at higher risk.

The Endocannabinoid System

The Endocannabinoid System plays an important role in regulating a range of functions and processes in our bodies such
as sleep, digestion, appetite, memory, and so on. Its most notable attributes are for pain relief, immune response, and inflammation. As for how it addresses glaucoma, cannabinoid receptors are involved in the ocular tissues, which may help to regulate IOP.

CBD’s Role

In 1971, Frank and Helper reported that the ingestion of cannabis lowers IOP by 25 to 30 percent. Later on, a 1979 study in the Inter national Journal of Pharmacology and Biopharmacology analyzed the effects of CBD on 16 patients with open-angle glaucoma. Its results exhibited reduced blood pressure and an increase in heart rate, which led to a decrease in IOP behind the eyes. Furthermore, in a 2016 stud/of cannabinoid receptors in monkeys, concluded that activating the CB1 and CB2 receptors may help restore normal vision and protect the retina. This means that CBD could be utilized to help alleviate some of the symptoms of glaucoma. CBD may also become a great help due to its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties.

In conclusion, more tests and studies need to be conducted to better understand the overall effectiveness of CBD for glaucoma. When used properly, under the advice of the appropriate specialists, CBD may help to lower I0P and protect the eye’s optic nerve over time. This could mean with CBDs pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, CBD could be utilized to help alleviate some of the symptoms of glaucoma.

How Medicinal Cannabis May Help Manage Diabetes?

How Medicinal Cannabis May Help Manage Diabetes?

Diabetes is significantly prevalent in the United States. With over 100 million Americans currently living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, and about 84.1 million who are prediabetic, we want to discuss ways premium CBD may help in managing the disease’s symptoms.
(https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/diabetes/ overview/what-is-diabetes)

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes, or diabetes mellitus, is a disease which the body’s ability to produce or respond to insulin is impaired, resulting in an abnormal digestion of carbohydrates and dangerously high levels of glucose in the blood and urine. Glucose is blood sugar and is not only the main source of energy for the brain, but it’s also the body’s cells’ fuel source. Due to a lack of insulin, a hormone in the pancreas that allows your body to process and use glucose, diabetics suffer from irregular glucose levels.

There are two types of diabetes. Type 1, also referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes, occurs when the immune system attacks and destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. It is most commonly diagnosed in children and young adults; patients need to take insulin every day to stay alive. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes that can be developed at any age, and occurs when the body is unable to produce enough insulin.

When the body is either unable to produce insulin, or it’s unable to use it in a way that’s sufficient enough to maintain glucose at a healthy level in the bloodstream, it can cause unstable glucose levels and a wide array of serious, life threatening conditions.

Symptoms of Diabetes

The symptoms associated with diabetes include:
• Increased thirst
• Frequent urination
• Unexplained weight loss
• Fatigue
• Extreme hunger
• Irritability
• Blurred vision
• Dry and itchy skin
• Frequent infections

Over time, high levels of glucose can lead to problems such as:
• Heart disease
• Stroke
• Kidney disease
• Eye problems
• Dental disease
• Nerve damage
• Foot problems

Unstable glucose levels can occur when the body is either unable to produce insulin, or it’s unable to use it in a way that’s sufficient enough to maintain glucose at a healthy level in the bloodstream.

How does CBD Help?

1. Prevention Measures
Endocannabinoid receptors have been found specifically in pancreas islet cells, where insulin is produced . The stimu lation of these cells promote production of insulin.

Further, according to a 5-year study, people who used cannabis-related tincture products regularly had fasting insulin levels that were 16 percent lower than participants who had never used cannabis. People who have a higher chance of developing diabetes have insulin resistance and high fasting insulin levels, so the use of medicinal cannabis helps stabilize and lower these levels that may prevent diabetes from developing.

2. Neuropathy
Nerve damage is a common result of diabetes, and the hands and feet are the primary areas, but organs can become affected too. Nerve damage can also occur from other illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and arthr itis . CBD may help to relieve nerve damage because the cannabinoids bind naturally to the receptors in the endocannabinoid system, and when multiple cannabinoids work together in a process called the entourage effect, inflammation can decrease dramatically.

3. Obesity
CBD performs several different functions in the body that may contribute to its weight management benefits . Cannabinoids have shown they can play a role in the regulation of glucose metabolism, suggesting that they’re beneficial for regulating fat tissue in humans that are obese. Further, it may allow patients to get rid of extra weight in the form of inflammation, and also act as an appetite suppressant. As a result, it may help people avoid overeating and gaining weight.

4. Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance occurs when the body’s cells reject insulin, which is produced by the pancreas to regulate blood sugar. Because cells reject insulin, they cannot absorb the glucose that is needed for energy, which causes the build up of glucose in the bloodstream. Therefore, insulin resistance is a key factor in prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes .

Studies have a shown a connection between chronic inflammation and insulin resistance. They explain that when inflammation is reduced, the immune and cardiovascular systems are able to work significantly better.thereby decreasing the chances of developing insulin resistance overall.

If you would like to learn more about CBD and the possible ways it can benefit your health, please keep in touch!

According to a 5-year study, people who used cannabis-related tincture products regularly had fasting insulin levels that were 16 percent lower than participants who had never used cannabis.

CBD Benefits For Men

CBD Benefits For Men

CBD benefits for men

With it’s rapidly growing popularity, CBD continues to be recognized for its health benefits. Before diving into the world of CBD, it is important to consider every possibility for supporting your health goals. From traditional medicine to cannabis therapy, it is good to understand each of their benefits. We’ll dive into each of the core areas where CBD may assist and the science behind it.

Inflammation and Pain

Reacting with CB2 receptors in the body, CBD is highly effective in reducing inflammation. Treating acute pain may be another story, however. Studies show pain is effectively reduced with the cannabinoid THC, which binds to the CB2 receptors. Full-spectrum products contain both CBD, THC and a variety of other cannabinoids and terpenes producing what is referred to as the entourage effect.

Sleep

The sleep cycle is critical to the pursuit of health and overall wellness. Regular exercise, a healthy diet and reducing stressful situations are key components to a restful sleep.

Studies show major cannabinoids such as CBD, CBN and CBG in addition to other native minor cannabinoids may be highly effective in the pursuit of falling and staying asleep. Using natural, organic, safe formulas that promote a higher level of overall wellness has become a growing trend to manage overall sleep quality

Diabetes and Obesity

If you’ve been wanting to have more control over your weight, some research and studies suggest CBD may help. Most men have a higher intake of alcohol and salt, which increases the likelihood of diabetes. Diabetes results from excess insulin that promotes the conversion of sugars into stored fat, which leads to weight gain and obesity. Increased research regarding the interaction between cannabinoids and insulin regulation may provide significant progress toward the prevention of obesity and diabetes.

This is because CBD has been known to regulate insulin production and converts white fat into brown fat, a fatty tissue with weight-reducing properties, which encourages proper sugar metabolism and noatherogenesismal insulin production. In fact, a 2006 study of mice showed that treatments of CBD alone lowered the incidence of diabetes by 56% and significantly reduced inflammation. These results indicate that CBD can inhibit and delay destructive insulitis and inflammatory symptoms.

Heart Health: High Blood Pressure & High Cholesterol

As high cholesterol and high blood pressure are leading causes of heart attacks and strokes, CBD may help improve heart health for men. High blood pressure, otherwise known as hypertension, is a common phenomenon due to poor food habits, sleep patterns, and high levels of stress – all of which are major areas that CBD can assist with. Numerous clinical studies have shown that men are more prone to hypertension than women, especially below the age of 50. A recent study showed that 600mg of cannabidiol led men to experience reduced blood pressure during high-stress tests . Thanks to CBD’s anti-inflammatory and anxiety-reducing properties, it may help to regulate hypertension.
Since cannabidiol has the ability to increase metabolism levels by allowing the body to process calories and burn off fat quicker, deterring inflammation, and reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol, CBD oils may greatly benefit men’s heart health.

Life In The Bedroom

Affecting 30 million American men of all ages, erectile dysfunction (ED) can be caused by physiological or psychological factors, and performance anxiety falls under these categories. CBD’s ability to provide anxiety relief can benefit men in more ways than one. Did you know that anxiety is one of the root causes of ED?
Studies have shown that endocannabinoid receptors are present in sexual reproductive organs. Cannabidiol may help improve blood flow and repair tissue damage in the genital area, thus relieving symptoms of ED.
Some studies have even shown that CBD can increase libido by reducing anxiety, stress, and symptoms of depression. By helping to improve the overall mood of users, CBD creams may allow for a higher sex drive.

Stress And Anxiety

There is currently a great deal of research taking place on the benefits of using CBD for stress and anxiety. Supplementing one’s daily routine with CBD may be a great alternative for men preferring a natural way to balance the daily routine or the weight of the corporate grind.

Final Thoughts

Benefits of CBD & THC to Help with Arthritis Pain Relief

[et_pb_section bb_built=”1″][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text]

What is Arthritis?

Affecting over 50 million people a year, arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States. The two most common types include:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis, a chronic progressive disease that causes major inflammation in joints leading to immobility, painful deformity, and swollen, stiff joints in the feet, wrists, fingers, and ankles.
  • Osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease that causes pain and stiffness in joint cartilage and bones affecting mostly the hip, knees, and thumb joints.

Most people ages 25-45 suffer from the symptoms of swelling and intense pain brought on by the inflammation.

What causes Arthritis?

In the case of Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disease, the body’s immune system attacks normal tissue while invading pathogen caused inflammation. This inflammation damages the lining of the joints, spreads to the cartilage and bone, and gradually causes immobility and deformity through its destruction.

Factors such as smoking, obesity, environmental exposures, age, and family history may all increase someone’s risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoarthritis occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of your bones wears down over time due to deteriorating cartilage. The risk of osteoarthritis increases with age. Other contributing factors include obesity, joint injuries, and physically demanding occupations.

How does CBD & THC help?

Recent studies have shown that the entourage effect of CBD & THC can help relieve the symptoms of chronic pain brought on by arthritis. Results showed that CBD oil treatment effectively slowed down the progression of rheumatoid arthritis and created significant improvements in pain and inflammation for osteoarthritis patients.

As we know, both CBD and THC are pain-relieving agents; the medicinal use of cannabis is shown to fight inflammation in nerves and joints by activating the pathways of CB2 receptors. There are also immune-boosting functions of CB2 that are activated by the proper use of CBD, which enables it to help autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, and also allows it to moderate the intoxicating effects of THC during the entourage effect (the effect chemicals can have on the human body only through combination).

While more research must be done, findings so far have been encouraging. Let us know your thoughts and check back to learn more about other ways CBD can benefit you.

Cannabis and the Opioid Epidemic

Cannabis and the Opioid Epidemic

What if you could replace synthetic prescription pills with a natural alternative?
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of many compounds called cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Due to its non-psychoactive properties CBD has been explored for potential in treating neuropathic pain and inflammation. There’s also promising evidence that CBD may be useful in treating substance use disorders including addiction to opioids, cocaine, nicotine, and amphetamines.

More than 115 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. This epidemic is the number one cause of accidental death and is devastating American lives, families, and communities. Not to mention the increasing economic burden incurred from overdose deaths related to prescription drugs.

However, rather than reaching for the nearest pill bottle, more and more people are choosing cannabis as a natural alternative for pain management. Premium CBD has been shown to provide the same relief of prescription pills only without the major long-term side effects.

A study published in July 2016 in Health Affairs showed that the use of prescription drugs for which marijuana could serve as a clinical alternative “fell significantly” saving hundreds of millions of dollars among users of Medicare Part D. These findings reinforce the possible therapeutic benefits of non-psychoactive cannabinoids. This also suggests that the main use for CBD is for pain management, which if regulated properly, could be a more effective and safe alternative to treating pain.

[/column][column grid=”2″ span=”1″] Because of this, many athletes are pushing for the right to use cannabis products as part of their recovery process from sports related injuries. Former NFL player, Jim McMahon has passed his injury-prone days on the field but now thanks medical cannabis for helping him get off narcotic pain pills. He highlights that sports medicine would greatly benefit from a natural pain reliever such as CBD, due to the increasing number of athletes coming out of their careers addicted to opioids. Additionally, there have been signs of reduced opioid-related abuse, treatment admissions, and deaths in areas with access to medicinal cannabis access, according to the Journal of Health Economics.

As cannabinoids continue to show promising evidence of reducing the likelihood of a drug relapse, our focus should remain on educating others of alternative medical options to treatment of pain.

Medicinal Cannabis Helps Provide Relief for Parkinson’s Disease Patients

April marks Parkinson’s awareness month. How does this relate to medicinal cannabis?

Recent studies have shown the positive effects of cannabinoidsand various blends of terpenes that inproper ratios can have positive effects on Parkinson’s patients by providing significant relief from the disease’s most debilitating symptoms.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects the dopamine producing neurons in the brain, progressively, causing dopamine levels to drop and seizing overall production of dopamine. Common symptoms include tremors as well as shaking of limbs and hands, rigid muscles, sleep issues, muscle spasms, balance loss, cognitive function problems, and dementia or memory loss. A patient suffering from these symptoms must cope with impairment of motor control.

The endocannabinoid system is essentially a large cell receptor system in the body, and the use of cannabinoids engages this system. As we know, the endocannabinoid system is responsible for the regulation of almost everything including mobility, the immune system, sleep, memory, and appetite. The cannabinoids have neuro-protectant, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which can be beneficial for managing Parkinson’s disease. When activated, the endocannabinoid system has a neuroprotective effect that attempts to mitigate neural damage that Parkinson’s disease brings on.

Let’s get specific.

There are exactregions of the brain the cannabinoids are connected to that aid in the relief of symptoms. The primary region of the brain affected by Parkinson’s, the basal ganglia, has a high concentration of CB1 receptors that can be activated by and binds with THC, most abundantly found in cannabis. If used on its own, THC can actually worsen motor symptoms, which is where the entourage effect comes into play.

Both THC and CBD are needed in a ratio in order for CBD creams to work effectively. The interactive relationship between the two cannabis compounds is often referred to as “the entourage effect,” which describes the effect chemicals can have on the human body only through combination.

While THC and CBD alone can help relieve specific symptoms of stress or nausea, when combined and blended with other cannabinoids, Premium CBD can reduce the hallucinatory effects of THC and can strengthen each other’s effects. Therefore, when multiple components of cannabis interact together, it’s able to generate a much stronger influence on health and become more medically beneficial.

The benefits medicinal cannabis provide for Parkinson’s patients include:
  • Arthritis relief
  • Anti-inflammatory agents
  • Anti-psychotic effects
  • Relief from neuropathic pain symptoms – pain caused by damaged nerves
  • Sleep aid

CBD has also been shown to have neuroprotective and anti-psychotic impacts on Parkinson’s disease patients, enabling them to experience improvements in movement impairments and sleep disturbances. Overall, it appears the entourage effect of CBD and THC have a promising future in aiding those suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
